Step 4) Run Application

You now have a fully functioning search screen. It allows users to search for customers by entering criteria related to the customer and/or the customer's address. Note that you did not have to code any SQL or SQL-like statements even though the search query may involve multiple objects (tables).

Functionality and Features of the Search Screen
  • screen layout
    • screen title
    • positioning and type of fields and columns (e.g. date fields, drop lists and check boxes)
    • field/column labels and corresponding float over text
    • data entry validations (format, type, size, etc...)
    • populating drop lists (combo boxes)
    • multiple tab panels (i.e. customer and address tabs)
  • search customer
    • displays customers which match criteria entered
    • includes wildcard searching
  • clear (reset) search
    • clears all criteria fields and clears results from previous search
  • view customer details (folder button)
    • displays the Maintain Customer screen for the selected customer
  • add customer ("+" button)
    • allows users to create new customers using the Maintain Customer screen
  • delete customer ("–" button)
    • validates that the customer can be deleted
    • requests user to confirm delete operation
    • deletes the current customer and related information (e.g. addresses)
  • cancel
    • returns to previous screen
